Vocabulary Test
Twenty multiple-choice questions on word meanings, synonyms, antonyms and choosing the right word in context. When you finish you get your score, the questions you got right and wrong, and a short explanation for every answer.
What the vocabulary test covers
- Word meanings — choosing the definition that matches a word such as abundant, diligent or lucid.
- Synonyms — finding the word with the closest meaning, for example a synonym of brave.
- Antonyms — finding the opposite, such as the antonym of expand.
- Words in context — picking the right word inside a sentence, including commonly confused pairs like affect / effect and rise / raise.
Each question has four options and is worth one mark. Your percentage is (correct answers ÷ 20) × 100. Retake as often as you like: questions and answer options are shuffled on every attempt.
How to use your result
A score tells you which words to look at, not how clever you are. After the test:
- Read the explanation for every question you missed.
- Write one sentence of your own using each word you got wrong.
- Wait two or three days, then take the test again. Because the order changes, a higher score means the word has actually stuck.
