What the SkillNest tests measure — and what they clearly do not.

Not an official certification

SkillNest tests are informal practice tools. They are not official CEFR, IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge or any other certification, and no result produced here can be used as proof of your English level to an employer, school or authority. The level names (Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, Advanced) are broad, self-study bands calculated from a twenty-question sample.

A sample, not a full assessment

Twenty questions give a useful snapshot, not a complete picture. Real placement tests are longer, include listening, reading, writing and speaking, and are marked by trained examiners. Treat your result as a starting point for what to practise next.

Typing results depend on your setup

Typing speed and accuracy vary with your keyboard, device, screen size, posture and how warm your hands are. A phone will usually give a different result from a full-size keyboard. Compare your own attempts on the same device rather than comparing yourself with other people's numbers.

No guarantee of exam success

Practising here does not guarantee any particular score in an external exam. We do not prepare candidates for a specific syllabus and we are not affiliated with any examination body.

Errors and corrections

Every question, explanation and paragraph on this site is written for this project and reviewed carefully, but mistakes are always possible. If you think an answer is wrong, please tell us on the contact page and we will review it.
