What SkillNest is
SkillNest is a small independent project built around one simple loop: test, practise, improve. You take a short test, see exactly what you got wrong, practise that specific thing, then take the test again to check whether it stuck. Everything on the site is free, needs no account, and runs in your browser.
The tools
- Typing Speed Test — a 60 second test with WPM, accuracy, correct and incorrect characters. Open it.
- Typing Practice — easy, medium and hard paragraphs with live speed and accuracy and no countdown. Open it.
- English Level Test — twenty mixed questions with an informal level estimate. Open it.
- Vocabulary Test — meanings, synonyms, antonyms and words in context. Open it.
- Grammar Test — tenses, agreement, articles, prepositions and structure. Open it.
Each of the three question-based tools also has a practice mode that shows the correct answer and an explanation the moment you choose one.
How the scores work
The tests are deliberately simple and transparent — no hidden weighting, no trick scoring:
- Question tests: every question is worth one mark. Percentage = (correct answers ÷ total questions) × 100.
- English level bands: 0–39% Beginner, 40–59% Elementary, 60–74% Intermediate, 75–89% Upper Intermediate, 90–100% Advanced.
- Typing: WPM = (characters typed ÷ 5) ÷ minutes. Accuracy = (correct characters ÷ characters typed) × 100.
What SkillNest is not
- It is not an official certification. The level estimate is informal, based on twenty general questions.
- It is not affiliated with any exam board, university or examination body.
- It is not a full course. It shows you what to work on; it does not replace structured study or a teacher.
- It has no accounts, no fees, no advertising and no tracking.
Privacy by design
There is no sign-up, no login and no database. Your answers are processed by JavaScript in your own browser and are never sent anywhere. The site does not use analytics scripts, advertising scripts, cookies, external fonts or third-party trackers. Typing attempts are listed only for the current page visit and disappear when you reload.
Works on your phone
The site is built mobile-first, so the tests are comfortable on a phone as well as on a desktop: large tap targets, readable type, real form controls for mobile keyboards, and keyboard and screen-reader support throughout.
Content
Every question, explanation, paragraph and page on SkillNest is written for this project. No copyrighted texts, images or third-party content are used. If you spot a mistake, please tell us — corrections help everyone.
